Empathy during COVID-19
If you just stop and pay attention, you realize what’s really happening. Everything is shifting! It’s like an earthquake around the world. People have been thrown home to ‘figure it out”. What I have noticed is the importance of empathy during these difficult times. Regular check-ins are becoming the norm and the need to show more empathy towards each other.
Empathy... the capacity to understand or feel what another person is experiencing from within their frame of reference, that is, the capacity to place oneself in another's position.
This ability is a great part of what makes us human, and it's what compels us to reach out and help others. To truly understand and feel what another person is going. This effort comes from the heart, not the head.
So next time you reach out to a friend, a colleague, a family member, please take a moment to show them empathy and see how far it goes for the both of you.
